General Tso's Sauce

I use this sauce to coat gluten free chicken nuggets that we've fried at home, plus green beans that were preboiled. Hard to say how many people this serves, maybe 2-4 people depending on how big and how many nuggets they will eat. I double the sauce recipe for 4 people and have leftovers. Could also add to baked chicken or other meat if desired.

The story behind it

I like General Tso's but don't eat it in outside restaurants because it is not gluten-free, so I make my own version at home.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. If using on chicken nuggets and green beans, pre-fry nuggets and pre-boil and drain green beans.
  2. For sauce, whisk together broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar.
  3. In separate small bowl, whisk together 1 tbsp corn starch and 2 tbsp cold water, mixing until completely smooth slurry.
  4. Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes, cooking for about 30 seconds.
  5. Add sauce mixture and bring to simmer
  6. Add corn starch slurry and continue to simmer, stirring constantly until thickened (about 2 mins)
  7. Pour over fried chicken and green beans or add them into your existing pan depending on size/shape of pan used to evenly coat them in sauce. Serve.

Notes

Finely grating fresh garlic and ginger makes a huge difference on flavor.
